We are a group of students involved in a bilingual project at the IES Puerta de Cuartos in Talavera de la Reina Toledo. It´s a program supported by Ministerio de Educación and The British Council. With this Blog we would like to share with the students and teachers community some of our learning experiences as well as to inform our parents about the homework we´ve got every day.

PARTNER SCHOOL

We have got in touch with a secondary school in Manchester, England, and we plan to develop a number of common projects to work together.
During this week the teacher Víctor Mateos will be recording a presentation video that will be sent to them as an intruduction of ourselves.

1st Contact with Manchester

We have already started to write our presentation letters to the pupils in our partner school in Manchester.
All the students in 1ºE, 2ºE and 3ºD are writing a letter in English about themselves. All the letters will be sent by mail to the school in Manchester together with a picture of the students per class. Once the students there get our letters they will have to guess to whom each letter belongs( the descriptions and pictures will help them), and write back.
We hope students and teachers enjoy the activities we carry out.
We'll keep you posted.

Earth matter

All matter is made up of atoms, those tiny particles built by means of the join of positive charged particles (protons), negative charged ones (electrons) and neutral ones (neutrons).
These atoms, to be stable, have to join with others. This is how molecules form.
Molecules make up all the materials around us (e.g. water molecules are made up of two hydrogen atoms and an oxygen one). Rocks and minerals are some of these materials made up of cells as well as living beings.
The most abundant atoms in the earth crust are silicon (Si) and oxygen (O), they make up molecules, as the silicon oxide, that make up MINERALS like quartz. Minerals join together to make ROCKS ( e.g. Granit is a rock made up of three minerals, quartz, mica and feldspar).
The three main kinds of rock are: METAMORPHIC, IGNEOUS and SEDIMENTARY.
IGNEOUS ROCKS: they come from the cooling of MAGMA. GRANIT (image on the right) or BASALT are some of them.
SEDIMENTARY ROCKS: they come from fragments of previous rocks compacted and cemented. LIMESTONE, or SANDSTONE are the main sedimentary rocks.
METAMORPHIC ROCKS: These rocks come from previous rocks once they have been under big pressure and temperature. Mudstone becomes SLATE, limestone becomes MARBLE (image on the right) or sandstone becomes QUARTZITE.

Working at the computer room

Once a week students go to our computer room, called Althia room, to develop activities like learning how to use operative systems, word proccesors, spread sheets, presentation software, drawing software, as well as to use the Internet to get information and as a comunicative tool.
Last weekend due to heavy rainfall our computer room was damaged and during several weeks will be out of order, we are really sorry for the inconvenience.
