We are a group of students involved in a bilingual project at the IES Puerta de Cuartos in Talavera de la Reina Toledo. It´s a program supported by Ministerio de Educación and The British Council. With this Blog we would like to share with the students and teachers community some of our learning experiences as well as to inform our parents about the homework we´ve got every day.

What is life?

We are beginning in science the first topic in biology, that is about the definition of life and it’s being something difficult to do. Why a plant is alive and not a stone?.
Basically CELLS make up all living beings, the smallest unit that is able to feed, to interact with the environment and to reproduce.
Human cheek cells

The students also are learning about different kinds of living beings based on the number of cells they’ve got: Multicellular organisms, like humans formed by the cooperation of 100.000.000.000.000 of cells comprised in 200 kinds of tissues!.

A paramecium: a single cell organism

There are also single celled organisms, and this is something new for the students. These organisms can be bacteria that cause diseases, or we can watch them in a drop of water taken from a pond with thousands of different species.
A very good website to study cells: www.cellsalive.com
